Thanks to the Picture Book reading challenge from Child Led Chaos, we are keeping track of the books that we are reading this year.
This past week added a few different books as I tried grabbing things from the library before the 2 inches of snow closed our town down for 3 days. The standouts from this week were The Pet Dragon, Me on the Map, Just in Time Abraham Lincoln and Old MacDonald Had a Dragon. I will write more detailed posts later.
Obviously by my post last night I also had some issues with The Giving Tree and Purplicious.
One thing that is comical as I look over what we’ll read in any given week is that we are seriously all over the map with the books that we read. I grabbed 15 new books at the library on Saturday, during a fun Take Your Child to the Library day. We enjoyed a scavenger hunt at our local library and each girl got to pick out a new book to take home. After enjoying Patricia Polacco’s Abraham Lincoln book I checked out a bunch of her other books. Some have topics that are a bit advanced for J, but after I read them myself I might share them with her (one is about the Holocaust).
It’s fun to keep track of the books my kids read, since I enjoy keeping track of my books as well.
Have you read “Hannah’s Suitcase?” I reviewed it on my blog! Great way to introduce kids to the Holocaust. And, it’s a moving story about the children of Japan searching for information about a the girl who owned the suitcase that arrived at their cultural center. It unites three continentns.
that sounds awesome. I will have to add it to our list!
Sorry, it’s “Hana’s Suitcase.” Here’s the link to my review if you want to preview the book first. There is also a DVD in about the search at the library with the same title.
